  • Understanding why the histogram is important and how to read it
  • Exposing your images correctly
  • Setting focus points and drive modes for specific subjects
  • A discussion on shooting in RAW or JPEG format

  • What equipment and accessories you may need to take your photography further

From the Start: Basic Photo Editing

An important part of digital photography is learning to back-up and edit your images for presentation.  This 2 hour session is an introduction to using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom to manage and process images.  

Topics include:

  • Importing into Lightroom
  • Using keywords to build your library in Lightroom
  • Quick edits in Lightroom
  • Exporting from Lightroom
  • Basic Photoshop walk-around; where everything is located
  • Introduction to Layers in Photoshop
  • Basic edits using Adjustment Layers in Photoshop
  • Resizing for print or web in Photoshop

This workshop is interactive and participants need their own copy of Lightroom and Photoshop already installed on their laptop.  A free trial version is available.  Detailed handouts will be available.

Learn-to-See: Adelaide Botanic Gardens

2 hours of informal teaching in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens.  We will walk around and learn to make compositions of what we see (we can also practise using the manual setting on our cameras).  There will be some discussion of basic theory and guidelines for composition and you can ask any number of questions you may have!  Tripods are welcome.

Please note this session is primarily focussed on composition and participants should know how to use their camera's basic functions.
